Dr. Michelle Ashley is a Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, and the nuances of prescribing Psychiatric medication when indicated.  She helps solve life problems resulting from unresolved grief; transitions such as divorce, parenthood, career change, move to a new city, and relationship difficulties.  She treats manic-depression/bipolar disorder; depression; postpartum depression; schizophrenia; anxiety:  obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and social anxiety disorder by integrating cognitive behavior therapy,  interpersonal therapy, and Psychiatric medication if indicated.   She also is fluent in Spanish and treats Spanish speaking patients.  

          Her interest in therapy began at UCLA where she volunteered as a Listener on the UCLA Peer Helpline while earning her B.A. in Psychology.  In her junior year, she was accepted into UCLA’s education abroad program and she trained and supervised volunteers on the Madrid Helpline in Spain.  After obtaining her medical degree (M.D.) at UC Davis School of Medicine;  she completed her residency in Adult Psychiatry at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.  At Harbor-UCLA, she focused her therapy training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and learned the psychopharmacology of treating the full range of Adult Psychiatric disorders with Psychiatric medication.   While rotating at UCLA’s Neuropsychiatric Institute (NPI); she was certified for training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and received Distinction in Interpersonal Therapy.  At NPI, she continued her psychopharmacology training and focused on Psychiatric medications to treat anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder while rotating in the Anxiety Disorder Clinic and Mood Disorder Clinic.  After residency, Dr. Ashley worked for the Department of Mental Health for many years mostly at Edelman Mental Health Center,  treating a wide range of mental health disorders in a diverse population including Spanish speaking patients.  At Edelman as a UCLA Clinical Instructor she also supervised UCLA Psychiatry Residents.   She transitioned into private practice to further integrate psychotherapy and psychopharmacology.
